Consumer Goods & Services
The Consumer Goods & Services Industry segment
applies to the combination of business and technology
delivering value to the world's premier companies.
The challenge is to improve top line growth and shareholder
value, utilize new technologies, think globally and
use new business models. Levering our expertise, RippleImpact
can assist your company in achieving your full potential.
Case Study 1:
Client:
The client is a start-up company manufacturing an
internet appliance for home use. The company's existing
architecture consisted of the actual appliance hardware
and software, a web-based management and control front-end
for the appliance and a back-end network filesystem
maintaining all of the digital resources.
Challenge:
The client was looking to greatly expand distribution
both in terms of number of users and the number of
markets as an OEM implemented in several languages.
The current web-based system was not scalable in either
of these areas.
Solution:
We recommended a 3-tier approach to the management
front-end for horizontal scalability and a better
separation of business rules from user interface for
language independence.
Benefits:
- With the use of an application server middle-tier
the web-based facility was scaled to several low-priced
servers and increased both the reliability of the
system and the number of simultaneous users that
could be served.
- With the use of Model-View-Controller design principles
the interface was quickly and easily ported to other
languages.
- The entire front-end was rebuilt without any significant
changes to either the appliance or the back-end
database and filesystem.
Case Study 2:
Client:
The client deals with import/export of international
products and has to deal with the paper works for
their shipments and the calculations of the rates
taxes and shipment charges etc and also getting the
approval of the concerned country from where they
have to import or export the products.
Challenge:
Globalization is becoming a reality as technology
has reduced costs and opened new markets. Yet eBusiness
initiatives have revealed how ill equipped companies
are to navigate the maze of cross-border trade. Mass
production has given way to mass customization. Production
and sales are being dispersed around the world to
take advantage of lower costs and higher margins.
In the US, exports are growing in dollar terms, and
the number of shipments is increasing even faster-clear
evidence that a build-to-order fulfillment model is
replacing the expensive practice of holding inventory
in every market. For just-in-time fulfillment to succeed,
buyers, suppliers, and supply chain specialists must
be able to share information quickly. Buyers want
to know immediately when an item can be delivered
and what it will cost including freight, taxes and
duties. And immediately is now. After a four second
wait, half the potential online buyers will leave
a Web site.
Solution:
Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) states that the critical
component required to calculate international customs
duties and taxes is a product's classification. Many
suppliers will not provide this information about
their products in their catalogs.
The client application places up-to-date information
about cross-border costs and trade requirements in
the hands of decision makers at the moment the decision
is being made. Whether it is a sales rep closing an
order, a buyer comparing new sources of supply, or
a strategic planner analyzing where manufacturing
or distribution centers should be located.
Benefits:
The client application is designed to allow buyers,
suppliers, or marketplaces to quickly and easily import
and maintain custom transportation rates. Many domestic
transportation rates are based on carrier-specific
zones, often with add-on charges for door delivery.
It is designed exclusively for suppliers or marketplaces
those who want to classify a large number of items
according to the HTS. Traditionally, companies spent
days - often weeks - communicating with their suppliers
and customs brokers to determine the HTS classification
of an item.
