Case Study 1:

Client:
The client is the premier provider of broadband search on the Internet.
Challenge:

A custom client/server system had been written, however the performance was not adequate for large search results.
Solution:
A new version of the protocol was developed that was backward compatible with previous clients, but allowed newer clients to scan through search result on a demand basis. The protocol was documented, and several implementations of the protocol were developed, allowing greater choice amongst the clients prospective partners.
Results:
A more responsive UI led to increased user satisfaction, and the system was picked up by Time-Warner for their Road Runner division's multimedia search engine.

Case Study 2:

Client:
The client is a large children's entertainment corporation.

Challenge:
Evaluate the feasibility of the R&D division's advanced, but unproven technology in the context of the Online Entertainment division
Solution:
Create a proof-of-concept video game using R&D's software. Then, create a video game for general release.
Results:
The proof-of-concept was created in one day. After that management, management approved an eight week trial. Many problems were uncovered with the R&D divisions software. The R&D division decided that their software need further work before it was ready for production quality games.

Case Study 3:

Client:
The client is a network solutions provider, specializing in Asian markets.
Challenge:

To create a web publishing application server that enabled rapid development and deployment of dynamic web sites in asian languages.
Solution:
We developed the application server using VisualWorks, a fully object-oriented system. VisualWorks had also specifically targeted support for East Asian Languages, as well as generic Unicode. An object layer was implemented above an internal relational database. We chose Scheme, an IEEE standard language as our applications extension language to allow rapid development of the web sites. We implemented Scheme with the necessary primitive to support web development, and augmented this with a suite of visual tools to maintain the database and web resources.
Results:
The resultant system was so easy to use, that experience developers could code fairly complex sites in a under a week. Beginners who spoke no English were able to pick up the system rapidly, and were impresed by the ability to be able to code in their native language.
